Dont bother mate, get yourself a Sharpes Spey Wading Stick.

Top quality and does the job brilliantly, saved me more than once.

This is good advice believe me.

Hi John,
Check this out, looks the same, build quality good as Simms, except the name, I know cause I got one, could save you a small fortune.

Stillwater Wading Stick – Glasgow Angling Centre

available from Fly only online as well.

Martin....

Collapsable sticks are a nightmare... Wait till you are midstream in fast water and you put your weight on it , the sticks sinks an inch or two into a muddy patch and as you move forward you lift the stick and watch all the pieces seperate because the end stays stuck in the mud. You loose your balance and do a gracefull twirl and float of downstream.. Trust me that scenario can happen.
Wading staffs should be strong and heavy. But definately not collapsable...

Haven't used it for a while, but I was under the impression the Simms stick has a locking spring. To collapse it again, you have to push the spring loaded button into the body of the stick allowing the pieces to separate.
I have however read about Simms sticks folding under heavy weight, but those cases were with gentlemen who were *generously* proportioned.
Folstaff, who makes them and have been doing so for quite a while with a good reputation, have heavy duty ones with a thicker diameter.
I also have one of the now discontinued Whitlock wading staffs, built like a tank with brass everywhere, but being 2 piece it's a bit more to manage on a stream if not being used, and also travelling abroad.
Oh, and you could always stick a rubber stopper on the end of the Simms staff (ala Snowbee) to stop it sinking into streambeds (and weigh it down if necessary)

Looks like there was a re call due to folding when in use

Only passing on my experiences with wading sticks.

Had a few and the Sharpes Spey is the best.

One piece, heavy enough to stand firm in a good flow and very reassuring.

The best in my opinion.
