Question Hardy's Fly Boxes made by Wheatley

Please can you help me?

I am trying to record the Hardy's Fly Boxes that were made by Richard Wheatley. If you have one please could you let me have the details of it. The disc that is on the top - there are two that I know of but maybe more. One has the writing following the shape of the disc and the other has a rectangle with the writing inside. There is also the same Hardy's information punched into the aluminium.
What is in the box, number of clips or compartments (with details of what is in the lid of a compartment box) and the Wheatley's logo on the end (there are two made in Englands with the diamond logo either standing up or laying down)
I need the information for the Hardy's section of the book on Richard Wheatley that I am currently working on. I am very happy to acknowledge the help that you have given or not if you wish to remain anonymous.

Thank you for reading this - please help if you can

Default Hardy Wheatley Fly Boxes

Have you asked Hardy's for assistance on this?
Would someone with some Hardy catalogues be of help?
Just suggestions.

Thank you very much for the suggestions.

I have asked Hardy's for help - and have spoken to someone from the Hardy Bros. museum which has just two or three boxes, of which they kindly sent me photographs. There main interest appears to be in rods and reels which they manufactured.

Catalogues are fine but they don't tell if the boxes sold have the plaques on the top or not so I am trying to find people who have got the boxes who can tell me what they have.

Contact Chris Sandford via FF&FT Mag, if he doesn't know himself he'll know someone who does &/or has some.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have now contacted Chris Sandford and he comments that this is outside his specialisation. Thanks for the idea it was a good one.

I use one that has the little oval disk rivetted on the centre of the lid. What do you need to know? I could take some pictures of it. It's not mint. I use it several times a week it is a good tool for the job.

Hi Richard,

Thank you - I need to know if the writing on the disk is in a rectangle or not, how many clips or compartments are inside it and which Wheatley logo is on the end (a)Lozenge or diamond, (b) Large Made in England (Lozenge upright) or (c)small Made in England (Lozenge on its side)

If I can get enough information I will be able to list them in my book. Would you like a mention in this section?

There is no need for a mention, thank you for the offer.

The lid originally had a fleecy fabric lining that was attached by an adhesive. I didn't like the way it retained water so tore it out and put in a thin sheet cut from ethafoam wafer.

My kit is not really for collecting, more for using constantly. This box was old when it was given to me in 1975. It has been in use just about every week of the season since then and now is getting used about four outings per week.

I've got another given to me at the same time that has no Hardy branding on it at all. It is just a straightforward Wheatley.

Thank you.

All of Wheatley's boxes are made for use and this one is no exception. They are not referred to as the Rolls Royce of fly boxes for no reason.... Sad people like me try to collect and make sense of the what this Company has done over its 150 year history.

Your box has filled another gap in my knowledge - it is the first time that I have recorded the plaque with a rectangle on it combined with the Large Made in England logo. So I was very pleased to receive your information

best wishes
Clive
