Default Set in a cane rod

What sort of bend is acceptible in a 7' cane rod?
Obviously the ideal is none, but at what point would you get concerned.

(I need a realtively quick answer to this if pos.)

Whatever the set, I would be trying to straighten it out by hanging it so that its own weight has the effect you are looking for. It will take time but re-ringing 'upside down' so to speak is a big step to take, unless you have access to a rod-restorer who is especially good with his whipping. My cane rod is on a wall, made up, and periodically gets turned.

Hi Idris

If the set is only small dont worry about it, just fish the rod and enjoy it.
Or send me a picture if its bothering you. Hanging a rod correctly will not remove a set which is already in a rod. Its more a preventative measure not a cure.

Thanks. I've decided to buy the rod having managed to get hold of someone I know who knows more than me. There's about a 3/4" set spread mostly over the top 3'6" section. It's not dramatic, but I wanted to check first.
I'm told there'll be an expert to talk to in S&TA tent at the Yorkshihow'Show next week and I'll see what he says.

Thanks for the advice.

A cane rod builder will be able to straighten it for you for a modest fee...
