At the moment I am researching the special clips that Wheatleys put into aluminium boxes for Hardy's in the 1930 and onwards.
As far as I know the "Security" clip was put into 4 differing size boxes, 4 3/4 inch, 6 inch, 7 inch and 8 inch. I understand that these were available with or without the Hardys disc on the front and appear with 3 Wheatley's logos 1) the Lozenge (or diamond), 2) Large Made in England (Lozenge upright) and 3) small Made in England (Lozenge sideways) All my boxes are disc less which is not suprising as it is Wheatley's that I collect and study. Do you have one of these boxes - if so does it have a Hardy's disk and which Wheatley's logo does it show.
My collection suggests that the 8 inch is the rarest, the 7 inch next, 4 3/4 inch and the 6 inch is the most frequently found. My collection isn't big enough to ensure that my knowledge is totally correct. Which of this can you confirm. Is there anything else that I am not aware of.
The "Holdtite" was designed to go into the Neroda Range of boxes but appears in an aluminium box in the 1957 catalogue. There were two types of boxes available one with 40 clips and the other 80, The came with the Hardy's disc on the face, but was it also available without it? My boxes have all got the small Made in England logo which would be current in the 1950/60's
Thank you for taking the trouble to read all of this.Any information that you have which can add to my knowledge will be gratefully received
