Default Spitfire finish or polished

Hi, I'd be interested in folks opinions on whether they think this Hardy Perfect is a Spitfire finish or if it has just had the original finish polished off. Part of me thinks its a spitfire, but then I look at where the reel has pitted and I then wonder whether the original finish has been polished off.

Would be interested in peoples opinions.

Thanks
Simon

Looks to have been polished to me. The Spitfire finish seems more smoothly polished if that makes sense. I had a uniqua (1930s) that had a similar finish to that one. Could be wrong/ Hang on I have a book with them in, I'll go find and report back...

I will say polished as well, but a lovely reel all the same.

I once had a 1949 33/4" W Spitfire Perfect. They were all of post war manufacture - hence the name really.

The reel foot, amongst other fittings, dates the reel pictured as very much pre-war.

Hi Simon,

Does the reel have any initials in it?
Most of the true "spitfires" had Jimmy Smith's initials.
That style of Hardy logo would imply 1950's if I remember correctly.
Still a nice user thou.

Sorry for the delay in replying. Thanks for all your replies. There are no initials inside the reel, only a "2" stamped inside.
