Sue Burgess Diamond Back that was the one. I am pleased lots of you remember them. My first outing with it was at Avington the cost of a Day Ticket then was £8.00. I still have the photograph somewhere of the 5lb Brown Trout that I caught with almost the last cast of the day.
Happy Days

After a bit of digging I've unearthed a slide on 120 film stock of the salmon and the rod - image is a bit dodgy as I've simply scanned the slide on a flatbed scanner.

Very true and the floating lines don't seem to have improved much since, despite the over zealous claims of new technology by new management.!!!!!
What it also shows is how gullible most of us are when subjected to a continued and persuasive marketing ploy of whatever product. Still the tackle tarts love a new more expensive product albiet often no better than the object it replaces and sometimes worse.

I was always under the impression these old Burgess rods were very sloppy in action. I remember casting with one a friend bought & though it was quite expensive & well rated I found it a useless tool. Still it was a long time ago & memories can play tricks on ole Highlander.

Default diamondbacks

My father,Jim Nice, had 3 10' 6" 5-8 rods made by Stewart Canham, when he was at Benwoods, back in 1980.I believe they cost £103 each.I used mine last week at Kennick Reservoir and caught a couple of rainbows on it.I have them in various sizes but unfortunately broke my favourite 9' river rod in the good old car boot.Lovely rods. What happened to Stewart ? The last time I saw him he was running a fishery at Zeals in Wiltshire.
