Default Rod Identification

Hi all

I posted this thread on Fishing Magic a short while ago and it occurred to me that there would be more people who might know the answer on here.

I've acquired a 2 piece 8ft cane rod which has "A special rod by Milward" written on the cane just above the handle. I suspect the rod was intended for worming or light spinning and I'd rate it for weights of around 1/4 ounce. The handle is 16 inches long with sliding aluminium reel fittings, an aluminium collar and a white (or cream) rubber screwed button with a green felt washer. The ferrules are the spigotted type and the butt and tip rings are nickel silver with pale cream "agate" linings. The rod is whipped in black/white (possible black/silver) silk. the rod has a lovely action and weighs 5 oz.

Any ideas on a date or a name/purpose?

I'm just about to start restoration, which really only requires the replacement of the hard chrome low bells intermediates (4) and a few intermediate whippings. The challenge will be to find thread of the right colour!

Thanks

Sean

On old rods "Special" tended to be used when the rod was a custom order for a client so I expect you wont find very much info an the actual rod.

Thanks! You'd be suprised how difficult it was to register - my Fishing Magic ID wouldn't work and the registration process was a pain.

I know Ron has ruffled a few feathers but we're not all so argumentative you know!

Neither would my name work on FM. Which is why I registered there as Salmonella (Admin know) in case of further crossover issues.

I believe we have conversed. Ron too.

Hope so Gary. It's one of the nicest blanks I've ever waggled (and I've waggled a few!).
