I`m sure I read once that `Special` on a rod by Hardy is when Hardy had it made as a special order for the customer

Thanks for the link, helped me date the rod to 1914. Harder to findout model, but it might be as written that a "special" is custom made and might be hard to find out about?

In the good old days , when HARDY actually were HARDY , all you had to do was ring up my friend there , Johnny Gibson , and he'd tell you.

But they sacked him after he'd had a Heart Attack at the Dutch Fly Fair ( he was running their stand and had worked for them since school ) a few years ago - and then he died young !

So ring up Hardy's and they should be able to tell you from his old records - and if they can't - the hell with them !
