Default Help identifying a landing net please?

Hi,

please could anyone tell me anything about this net please? it is a folding extending trout net. The only mark on it is made in Scotland. I wondered if the mechanism / belt hook were distinctive enough for anyone to identify it please?

Thanks
Fenton

It's A Sharpes Strong, made in Aberdeen. The extending part has got me though they were usually one piece alloy construction. My guess 60s early 70s. Definately Sharpes though.

I wonder why "Sharpes" or "Sharpes of Aberdeen" isn't on any of the fittings?

It does look like a Sharpe though. I have a 1971 solid head version which has a flat spring steel clip. So I would say this would be a '60s version or even slightly earlier judging by the bronze/brass colour?

Oh it is definately a Sharpes I have one very similar. Only difference is the belt clip, mine has the flat spring clip & mine is not extendible, that was why I queried that part not for the Sharpes name but for the model The Strong. The other Sharpes model around at the same time was I think was The Trojan. I bought mine from Wm Robertson of Wellington Street Glasgow, an old established fishing tackle shop in my youth, 40 odd years ago, probably 1968-70ish as & entered the Forces in 71 so I would have bought it before then. Shop is sadly now long gone. Has had about 3 new nets & the original leather thong accross the arms has been replaced by chain. Other than that it still lands fish to this day. Only marks on mine are stamped on the arms near the folding mechanism & simply says Made in Great Britain.
