Default Hardy Silex Multiplier

Hi,

I am trying to find out where the reel maker will have stamped his intials when making the Hardy Silex Multiplier.

I have a feeling that it is where the gearing is, as this is the only place where I can see a screw to get inside the reel. I'm a bit nervous about taking this screw out though in case I damage the gearing. I have attached a couple of photos and if anyone can advise then I would appreciate it.

Thanks
Simon

It might sound obvious but did you contact Hardy?

If they are there, it was dependent on how many of that model/size were being made, they will be engraved/stamped inside the reel on various parts. Sometimes numbers were used as well as initials.
I've seen a book somewhere listing numbers allocated to various craftsmen at the Alnwick works.

Hi Simon.

Signatures, if there are any, are normally on the "check plate" . .in your case the inside 'back' face.

You can safely remove that screw, I think it'll be Right hand thread, ie normal, . .. but, without it in my hands, I accept no liability . . that should then allow access to the 'works'.

If you ever wanted to sell the reel . . .

Cheers
Brian
PS there's a Link on my blog (EA, below) to 'Hardy data' - that has all the reelmakers listed

Thanks for the replies chaps.

I'll take a look tomorrow and see if I can find the makers initials.

Brian, - I could be interested in a trade if you have any pre-1910 Hardy catalogues.
