Hi Sydney, welcome to the forum,im a new member myself but have got to say great place to be,especially with the winter we have just had!
Think the rod you have is a Hardy Palakona, which seemsto be their trade mark for quality.
As i have little knowledge of Hardy rods, hope someone else on the forum could help you out.
Would like to try one of their 6-7ft brook rods though.

Steve

The serial number would put the year of manufacture as 1951.

Is it a fly rod?

I've had a look through the list of Hardy rods in Graham Turners book 'Fishing Tackle, A collectors guide' and couldn't see anything remotely like 'wedge' but this list is by no way a complete list of Hardy rods. The only 11 foot 2 piece fly rod produced in 1951 I came across, was 'The Wye', which you see frequently at tackle auctions.

Hardy Brothers (Alnwick) Limited extended its operations to include golf club manufacture in 1933 the word WEDGE would fit in with a wooded golf club but not sure about the 11 foot.
The Name Hardy Palakona first crops up for a bamboo rod that won the Company's first exhibition gold medal in 1881
Hardys invented a planing machine that revolutionised the construction of split-bamboo rods. The straight, delicate, yet immensely strong bamboo that was created, was called Palakona and they still use the name today for there Gladstone rods.

Hardy did make a Alnwick Greenheart Trout Fly Rod that came in lengths upto 17 foot and these had a Wedge reel fastening

I would guess in average condition around £100. Mint condition up to £250 perhaps but i'm no expert so perhaps someone else can help.
I don't imagine many of these get fished these days so they probably sell for display therefore condition is all important.

Pete
