Default Shakespeare Beaulite salmon reel

Hi, just aquired a couple of reels and was wondering how to change the drag on these from L/H to R/H. Its the dark green model made by Youngs? I know that you change the drag by turning the steel triangular bits, but after trying different sequences nothing seems to happen. Any help from Beaulite users appreciated.....

You actually have to remove the triangular metal bit then replace it the oposite way round. Ie: If taken out from the left of the pin, turn it round 180degrees and replace from the right of the pin.

Hope this helps, my reels are in the loft and it's too cold to venture up there.

This company should be able to help. Mean whille you could swap the "rounded" one for the other which will probably not be worn.
The Mill Tackle Company: Fishing Reel Repairs, Servicing & Restoration
The Beaulite superceeded the older Beaudex which I still use but I am sure the pawls (steel triangular bits) will be the same.

There should be two pawls. One will be engaged for RHW, the other for LHW. You do not need to flip them over (in the sense of removing then reinstalling with what was the upward surface facing down). Instead you need to disengage the one with its sharpest point facing the gear cog/spindle by rotating it on its pin so the point faces the reel rim. Reverse this process with the other, and that should do it. By careful tweaking of the spring of the engaged pawl (varying bend and gape) you can tune the pay and wind tension and drag range. The ideal is a soft purr on wind and a good range on pay

These reels were made by Youngs aka Swift Engineering .

After collapse the spares went to Masterline and they surely had a guy helping out and good he was . Try there first for spare pawls - the pawls were common to quite a number of reels and they may well have some .

If you need them I may well have a couple of spare spools - you need the model no. though

Yes - Contact Gary at Mill Tackle. He'll be able to help you out. Be patient on the returning email but I've ordered pawls from him in the past. Good luck!
