Default Northumbrian anglers handbook & guide

I'm not sure if this the right place to post this, but here goes.

I had a little mooch around a second hand book store today. Whilst looking through the shelves I came across two copies of The Northumbrian Anglers Federation. Handbook & Guide to North country angling. One is a 1958 the other is 1959.

I just wondered if anyone collects this kind of thing.

I will add a picture later.

Sean

I’m interested as these are often useful research material.

Basically they’re copies of the club books dispensed to members of the NAF in those particular years (with an updated edition having been produced every season since). The sort of info they contain are details on the federation itself, its officials, a set of maps of their waters at that time (look at http://www.northumbriananglersfed.co.uk/maps.htm and you’ll see that they’re still using some from that era – Clara Vale Pit (Tyne 1) closed in the sixties!), info on how the previous season fished (on the Coquet & Tyne) and a list of the cups awarded for best salmon, first salmon of the season, best brown trout/ sea trout, etc.
NB. not really a guide to ‘north country angling’ as a whole, just to the fed’s waters on the Tyne & Coquet.

What shop did you see them in and how much were they asking?

Cheers for the info!

Hi Wear n Derwent, they are as you say club books. Lots of info pertaining to that area.

How they came to be in a book store in Wantage Oxfordshire is a mystery to me.Probably just the result of a house clearance or something like that.

If you think they would be of interest to you for research, you can have them, they cost me buttons.I would imagine they have no real market value, however if they sell at Sotherby's for 20k I want half.

P.M some contact info and I will send them your way.

Sean
