Default brass hardy perfect

I'm struggling getting images on this, though may have succeeded.

Any help on age and approx value on this would be greatly appreciated. I got it from my mother-in-law. Her father who died in the early sixties was the only other serious angler in both families. Reel is 2 and 3/4 inches across.

Thanks

The reel looks to be in nice condition.

What about it you experts?

It looks like a Perfect Narrow drum (First Model) but I would like to see it with the spool out. Is the center screw present, it looks as if it is missing.
Year 1896/97. What is the measurement you are giving?

Value buying or selling? around £1000 depending on condition, i would like to see some better photos.

Default Nice reel

I would agree with Mr Gunn about the age and suggest it may be an 1896 check. Also, curious about the (missing?) centre screw.

Can you post a photo of the check mechanism please?
(mail it to me if you have problems and I'll post it)

Take great care trying to open the reel, if it has no center screw it might be different to most other perfects.
PM me if you require help.

Default Missing Screw

Thanks for the very helpful comments. On a closer look there is certainly a thread inside the hole in front. The reel had been pretty much 'lost' from recognition for a few decades. I found it in my wife's family's farm milkhouse on a cheap fibreglass spinning rod. it had been used by kids dunking worms!
Apart from fondling it when I'm drunk, I dont really know what to do with it. I sometimes think I'd like to fix it up and fish with it, but would worry about wrecking it. Im very hard on tackle. I don't really collect tackle either so perhaps its a bit wasted on me.

Default your reel

ldo
the screw is missing , if you do decide to try to open it , be very very carefull you don't break something or it will be worth hardly anything if it's broke ,
i seen a guy who droped a reel like that and it cracked it bad , plus on opening such a reel only one way to do it without droping the little bearings inside it ,

i have free long distance as i have many friend and family in the u.k , if you want i can call you and help you with looking at the reel , if you have it in your hands when were on the phone and not drunk , i'll talk you on how to open it

Default Not a recipe for a good Xmas dinner.

Thanks all for your excellent advice and offers on my hardy reel. I ran it up the flagpole but the Mother-in-law did not salute, in fact she got quite upset.
So it's back to fondling it when I'm drunk! I may attempt to have it checked out regarding the missing screw. Should I get in touch with Hardy?

Thanks very much again to all.

yes i'd for sure get it fixed up , needs a screw and hardys will do that , i think also from your picture's the one side of the foot has been shorten or trimmed back some , nothing you can do about that as i think the foot is built into the frame ,
and don't be playing with that reel when your drunk in case you drop it , you have a rod between your legs to play with when your drunk
