Question Old line grades

Does anyone have a conversion chart or somesuch gizmo that "translates" the old (presumably English) line 'grades' to current line weights (E.G. 0 - 14)? Is this even possible? I ask because I have a number of older English-made reels (Young etc.) and the company's information/booklets for these refers to line grade 2, 3, 4 etc. and there is no corresponding info.

Appreciate any info out there. Cheers

Sorry can not get it to line up exactly

You may well be thinking about the old Kingfisher & Hardy Corona line ratings. As I remember
they were Size 1 2 3 & 4 with 1 the lightest & 4 the heaviest.
Again if I remember rightly & I last used a Kingfisher 40odd years ago so I may be a bit out.
Kingfisher 2 would be about a 6wt & a 3 a 7/8 wt

Look at this article from Reed Curry's fine website & you will find your answer I am sure.

Hope this helps

Default Many thanks...

Great information. Thank you very much. I have been fly fishing for many years and only now have decided to begin collecting reels (old ones that is - already have too many (is that possible) newer ones in use).

Again thank you for your time and trouble.

austrout.
