Smile Gnat Fly Reel

Can anyone shed any light on a gnat fly reel, I've done a search, but to no avail. It's for sale, just wanting to know is it worth buying etc,

Thanks,

BF.

I had one of those BF, they are a cheapish reel I think, how much is it for sale at.
I would have thought a tenner is plenty, if it's the one I am thinking of.

Single pawl click drag - three and five sixteenth inch diameter - weight about the same as a Rimfly Regular.

Fun and still cheap.

Default Gnat Fly Reel

I have before me the 1993 Leeda trade catalogue, which lists the Gnat fly reel as follows:

"Gnat Fly Reel

Budget Price - Amazing value!
A 3 1/4 inch (8.25cm) reel of good capacity. light weight. Audible check, quick release spool. For lines up to WF7 plus backing."

Recommended Retail Price £10.95

The Gnat was the cheapest of the Leeda fly reel range. The same catalogue lists the Rimfly regular at a RRP of £15.75. In comparison, the far superior Youngs 1520 reel is listed at £24.50 retail and the 1525, with adjustable drag, at £29.99 retail.

You should be able to pick up a Youngs 1500 series reel on Ebay for £15. Unless the Gnat is in mint condition, I would not pay £15 for it.
