Default Wooden rods

Hi all

Before Bamboo was used in rods, I know wooden rods was made for all kinds of fishing.

Just interested to know if anyone have some and if they still use them.

BlueOne in Slovenia had a thread about making a rod out of hazel in traditional methods which he successfully used to catch several fish. I think it was intended for pike but it wasn't up to the task and broke a few times.
Have a look in the od building section.

i have tried it, i wouldnt go as far as to say fish with it, its heavy before you even start casting, alarmingly soft and wobbly, its probibally not the best of its type, some of the old greenheart double handers cast remarkable distances.

First fish I ever caught was on a greenheart three piece 11ft float rod and a bakelite centre pin reel, at the time it was the best rod in the world. never fished with a wood fly rod apart from split cane,,,,
