That's really, really lovely. He would have been delighted to know that the items he sold were so loved. That's so sweet you remember it!

He didn't sell it to me. It was the piece he had been using at his tying bench when we walked in. I asked my wife if she remembered him, she didn't until I asked if she remembered the person giving me the piece of beeswax and she remembered that right away.

A little bit of kindness is always remembered.

Rob used to come and see us when we were fishing the Brora. He could tell some stories, 2-3 hours could pass before he would start to flag, he had sold his shop by then but still enjoyed angler’s company. I still have a “yellow dolly he gave to me when he was explaining Derek Knowles’ dry fly technique.

(I notice "Dusty Millers obituary in T&S this month, see the Willie Gunn story for the connection)

Sad to hear Rob has passed away.
Its strange because we were looking at the rod only the other day and were wondering if Rob was still with us.
I am thinking of getting an old (c1974) reel to match the rod can anyone recommend anything suitable?
I was looking at a BFR Dragonfly 80 but I don't suppose they were made then. Don't really want to spend too much say £30 or so
Perhaps something like this?

Thanks

Maybe an old Rimfly?
