Default Auctions

I've been looking at a number of lots on the Angling Auctions list for their next sale.
I know an auction price depends entirely on who's tehre and how bad they want something, but are their estimate prices usually realistic and are the details optimistic or understated when it comes to condition of lots?
(I'm most interested in cane rods with the intention of using rather than collecting.)

Eh?
The catalogue is the last one, isn't it? (March 2009)

Next sale is due the end of September I think.

Catalogue will be on line about mid Aug

Great things to be had in these sales and normally make fair prices

Fair for the buyer or seller?

If both parties agree to the price then it is deemed to be fair.

Of angling auctions in general, not specifically Angling Auctions, I'd say that the descriptions are usually fairly accurate especially compared to some of the hilarious descriptions you see on e-bay.

The impression I get is that price estimates are more often under estimates than over estimates. It's in their interest to attract customers with the lure of bargains to be had.

For the items I've bid for, they have all gone over the estimate, but not by huge amounts. The last one I entered, I submitted 2 bids of £100 over the maximum, and was shocked to win both!
I don't think the downturn has affected classic tackle much from what I can gather from my "Classic Angling" subscription. I believe that some are regarding their collections as a sort of pension!
