I wouldn't plan on an early retirement in the Seychelles just yet, you might get £15/20 for it on a good day.

Please prove me wrong though, it looks as if it was assembled in the late 1960's by the style & finish of some of the tools.

Best of luck.

60s is about right, I bought one similar from E Bay for I think it was £10 a few years back
Just a nostalgic thing as I hankered for one when I was a laddie but could never afford the kit. Settling for an old OXO tin with a few bits & bobs in it.
You got to remember that in those days we never had the choice that is available today to the fly tier. Veniard's of Thornton Heath was the top notch kit at the time. That & a company caled Messenna which I believe Veniard bought over early 60s.
The kit looks about complete but has had quite a few additions to it. Mine is about 90% complete but not as much as you have shown. There should be a rudimentary vice though & a fly tying booklet & a list of items contained. Yours appears to be the Trout version. I believe they called it the No1. There was a Lake & Reservoir version & also a Salmon but all contained in the same ply box with the sliding lid.
A nice wee thing from the past. Price about £20. The feathers etc should still be usable.

Blimey! I look on this part of the forum for the first time and I see my first fly tying kit! I was given one of these Veniard boxes as a present in the late 60s and taught to tie (I guess as a 10 year old) by a very patient man in Burnbank - he was a friend of my Grandfather.

Nostalgia is great! Things have moved on, though - here I am 40 years later, having refined my technique to tie a pretty good blob.....

Highlander, I think I remember seeing somewhere that Veniard's "incorporated" S.G.Messena around 1923.

Believe it or not I am reading this and looking at these pics with a lump in my throat.

I inherited my grandads box like this when he died he taught me to tie from the same box.

But I had to throw it out a couple of years ago because of live woodworm.

I couldn't even bring myself to put it in the bin my Dad had to do it.

I have a set of old Rod & Line Magazines & in 1961 they were advertising as separate companies then. After 1961 only Veniard continues to advertise.
But I remember on the Veniad logo in later years it say Incorporating Messenna but as to date that happened I have no idea. Messenna's adverts say that they have been established over 100 years so a lot of history there. Veniard as you know still exists today.
