Default Hardy "perfection" rod and "perfect" reel any info please? pics inside

Hi, I have recently acquired this rod and reel, The rod is a Hardy palakona "the perfection" rod, There is an I.F.S reg Number of D1058 , which according to the following website:

http://www.flyfishinghistory.com/har...ring_dates.htm

dates the rod to 1922, or is that a different serial number I should be looking for?

The reel is a "perfect" duplicated mark 2, 3 3/8. I am also trying to date this. In other examples of this reel I have seen a circular line guide but there is not one present here, the reel also appears to be for a left hander (wind with right). Also could anyone tell me how would I go about taking the reel apart to check for stamps?

any help appreciated.

The reel is for a right hander (wind with strongest hand) the line guards were an option.
To take the reel apart, hold it in your left hand with your fingers holding the spool and frame(to jam it) the turn the handle anti-clockwise, you might have to give it a thump to break the accumulations of grease etc.

It looks like a 40s or 50s model from the photos.

I got the reel apart and inside are the initials T.A.G, which after some searching have found out is Thomas Armsrong who was employed from 1928 - 1978.

I'm still having trouble accurately identifying the rod though, after going through this table: http://www.upon-bamboo-fly-fishing-r...and-reels.html

Also one length of the rod is shorter than the other apparently indicating previous damage, if both lengths were equal the rod would be 10' 8".

This is an early to mid 30's Perfect (based on reel size location on windingplate) and the rod most likely has a steel center. The spring compression device, if made from brass, is of this 1928-30, N/S was later. You have a nice combination here for sea trout or low-water salmon.

What line would you recomend to fit a 3 3/8th perfect for salmon or sea trout fishing?

A 3 7/8th yes but a 3 3/8th I doubt it.

Willie, I agree, it is a trout setup, not salmon.
