My thoughts are maybe this oval latch is a replacement or repair as you can see the different sized heads on the fixing screw? Saying that the 'OIL' stamp certainly looks like an original. Or the screws might have been replaced over time??
Not too sure mate but its a nice example of an antique hardys, should be worth £250 if the right person was wanting it.
Edit--- Think i have found the same reel mate, as this one has two different size heads on the screws just like yours.... have a look here

Extra info - it's an early hardy uniqua circa 1909-1921 wide drum for salmon with IVORY handle was made in 5 sizes from 3.1/2" dia to 4.1/2"
