Default Hardy "THE SOUTH AFRICAN" SURF REEL

Hi, admittedly this is not a typical fly fishing reel but I would appreciate any guidance that a knowledgeable Hardy reel collector might have. I own a 6 inch version of the Hardy "The South African" Surf Reel. I believe it is fairly rare and according to the Hardy website it was produced between 1931 and 1948. Does anybody know how many of these were made and is there any way of determining in what year the one I have was made? The patent number is 24245. I would also be interested to know which of the Hardy catalogues it was advertised in so that I can look it up.

As this is more of a big game or sea fishing reel and I am more interested in vintage trout and salmon tackle, I am thinking of putting it up for auction. Does anybody have any idea of value or know what similar reels have sold for on auction in the past?
