The Buchan?
Picked up a Split Cane rod in Auction on Wednesday for £28.
It has been refurbed and badly at that!
It came in an Edgar Sealey bag not to sure if it is the bag for the rod.
This bag looks too modern for the age of the Salmon type butt on the rod and it has press studs top and bottom.
The rod itself is presently 11' 6" could of had a broken tip as the tip section is 6" short than the other 2 sections and that may account for the **** refurb.
The good thing for me is it as straight as the proverbial, the cane is in good nick and the build looks to be a quaility one?
Who ever has re eyed it with single leg eyes which are far to modern for how it looks like it should be.
The old whipping lines are clearly to be seen under the **** varnish job.
Clearly it has had decorative banded between eye whippings. Who ever refurbed it has put their own tranfer on which has cracked and been polished off.
Along with the old whipping lines near the butt there has once been what looks like a circular makers mark, could be a Sealey after all?
On the rod bag and the underside of the Sealey name tag stitching, there is a very faded 'The Buchan'
My plan is to strip it and once it has be re whipped ect, with an Avon rod type butt is to use it for Tench and Barbel.
Before I begin to re butt it any ideas what it is or was?
Searched on tinter net and found nothing thus far.
Just worked out what the refurbers transfer said Jeff Sadler sorry Jeff your works not very good
