Default Phantom Lure

Hi,

There is no makers name on the below Phantom Lure. I believe it came from Aberdeenshire.

Anybody any idea's of it's make and is it of any value?

My first guess would be Turnbulls of Edinburgh but all the major tackle shops stocked them with the shops name on the card. Alcocks make though as my second guess
A nice example it surely is.

Not sure who made these - certainly not from Aberdeen as they would have been marked with the initials W & B on the fins, or C & P - ie William Brown or Charles Playfair (examples of these can be seen under tackle makers on this web site www.feathersfliesandphantoms.co.uk ). These would have been made as "re-sale" items for tackle shops - hence no makers mark.

This minnow would be post 1900 as it has the Geens swivel on the head and Browns patent for this around then.

Value - mint on card, but no makers mark - I would guess around £20 - £30 (A standard one on card in box made by Brown £50 upwards)

Hope that's a help

Cheers

Colin
