Default Lowell Rod

A friend in the States has asked me the question, and posted this on Clarks forum:

I have a collector friend in Nova Scotia who owns a Lowell - "Parabolic 7" which is a 7' 2/2, w/ recommended line DT6F, weighing 3 3/4 ounces.

The Lowell is a new name to me. He claims it's an English rod, but neither Enigma (Brian) in the UK nor I can find anything about such a rod. Does the name mean anything to anyone here? Unfortunately I don't have photos. Thanks.

Edit: Photos now received:

Does anyone here have any answers?
Thanks in anticipation
Brian

From the fittings, and the triple trim whipping, it looks very much like the products of Sharpes, this coupled with the name parabolic 7. It looks very much an English rod rather than an American one. No doubt it has an English action too. What do you think Timmy, I'm sure you know something about this rod.

I think the clue is that it has "Made in England" written on it

That's me being English I think, I tend to call the United Kingdom in general - England!

Apologies to Scottish and Welsh forum members!

When Sharpes/Farlows gave up making cane "Scottie" rods in the early 1970s, the name and machinery were sold to Taylor and Johnson in Redditch.

It could be, especially as the rod shows a AFTMA line rating, that this rod comes from this period, and would have been "Made in England.

"Scottie" rods are now made by John and Steve Weaver in Ruislip. It might be worth contacting them to see if they have any relevant records.

regards,

Doc

Thank you all for your help and info.
I shall send a link to this thread to the original enquirer.

Further information is, of course, welcomed; particularly re:the "Lowell" name

Thanks again
Brian

I was Brian's friend in the States. Many thanks for all the replies. Our collector in Nova Scotia should be well on his way toward identifying this rod.
