Default Hardy Reels

Having a bit of a clear out at home and came across my grandfathers old fishing gear. I've herd that some of these old reels can fetch a fair price. It would be nice to use the funds to get some more up too date equipment.
So if anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.

1 Hardy reel The PERFECT 3 3/8''
2 Hardy reel The st George 3 3/0"
3 Hardy reel The PERFECT 2 7/8"
4 " SPEERA" Magnifiers used for making flys.

Interesting reels you have there John, particularly, for me, the St George Multiplier
Photos of the other face and internals would help to date and evaluate; also some more information on condition etc

Have a look at the last auction at Angling Auctions in Chiswick - http://www.angling-auctions.co.uk/in...&id=1&Itemid=2

There are also the prices the items went for, so it should give you some idea of what your reels could fetch.

All the reels will fetch good money, especially the St George multiplier (prob over a thousand). The glasses are an interesting buy, these kind of things are fetching more and more. These items definitely would need to go in a specialist vintage angling auction, or to an antique angling fair.

Nice items, the perfects are still to fish with now, if only I had the money.

John, beautiful reel!

JS was James Smith, at Hardys from 1908 - 60

Would need to do some research but definitely worth quite a bit!

Good luck
Brian

The St George Multiplier was made from 1927 - 1939.

Hi nice reels - you could still use them today the 3 3/8 perfect is an ideal reel to use with a light weight line I'd guess that it would sell in the £150 - £200 range and you could not buy a modern equiv for that, the 2 7/8 is a rare size for a perfect and would be £200+ however it's too small for modern plastic coated line (perfect for silk if you are so inclined). The St George anything from £800 upwards depending on the mood of the auction room - I'd suggest you contact Neil Freeman at Angling Auctions if you wish to sell. No idea about the glass - but I probably need a pair of those for my fly tying!

Did your Grandfather have any other stuff - it looks like he had great taste in equipment?

The Hardy Perfect reels are of brass construction. The 3 3/8 " Perfect is dated about 1902, according to my catalogue. The St George multiplier is probably quite rare. I sincerely hope you have these reels well insured. I'm no expert but there are things here that tell me you could get a hell of a lot of money for these reels. Do not for goodness sake sell them via Ebay. These need to go to Bonhams or Sothebys for proper appraisel.

You are indeed very lucky to possess such Items, I do hope the reels all work.
