Default New vintage tackle web site

Hello all,

Just thought I'd bring to your attention a web site I have been working on about the vintage tackle from Aberdeen (1820 - 1940) and vintage classic salmon flies. It's just started and will be expanded over the next few weeks.

Please let me know your thoughts

Cheers

Colin

I've just lost half an hour of what should have been productive work time, but it was well worth it. Excellent site, I particularly liked the Millais/Malloch/Brown connection, and those dingley silexes, and Dee flies are just cool. Yep, I enjoyed that, I definitely be checking back. Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

Tim.

Well done. I know from my own website www.richardwheatleymuseum.org how many days and hours are involved in building information websites. Especially those that are none commercial and none sponsered. There is so much information out which takes years of searching for and collecting until it is found and placed into the collector's sphere.

Your site is just fabulous...

Colin, good luck with the site.
It looks good and, as is the way with these things, the more we learn the more we realise there is still to learn.

Let us know when the book's published!

Certainly looks like that has been a labour of love, well done.

Colin,

Looks like an interesting site - I'll be back for more.

One thing though, you seem to have omitted J. S. Sharpe from the list of tackle makers. Don Mackenzie, current owner of the company has a wealth of knowledge about its history. You ought to arrange to visit him if you can.

regards,

Doc

Thanks Doc - that was a serious typo ! Now rectified...

I do have quite a bit of information about the Sharpes business - a nice interview with the man himself in 1965 when he was 85! I have some early Sharpes reels (and some rods) - made by them pre WWII, including the reel he used himself - which although has similar style to Dingley made reels has unique features - I'll get that all (including some details from their early catalogues) onto the web site as soon as I can upgrade the web site - I've already used up all my avaliable pages!

Cheers

Colin

Colin,
I'd be very interested in photos of Sharpes reels.
There was some tentative discussion about them on another forum, american, and as far as I recall it was never resolved

Yes, until recently most Americans believed that all Sharpe's reels were made by Dingley or Young. Nor did they believe that late Farlow's reels were made by Sharpe's, including this limited edition, designed by Stan Bogdan for Lee Wulff, and believed to be the inspiration for the (Hardy made) Orvis C.F.O.

Thanks Doc

Didn't Lee Wulff spend time over here fishing with Mr Sharpe? The basis for the rod and reel deals?
