Default abu lures / spinners

I wanted to resurrect the lures of my youth....wish i had kept them instead of losing them on the bottom /in trees etc. I do have a few left, 2 are still in their wee boxes, but i would like to get hold of some more......however i am not "into" antique/collectable tackle and wondered how much I'd have to pay for some discontinued lures. In or out of the orig box / card, especially:
Little wiggley, reflex, droppen and 1 that i had as a kid a Hogbom, which came from a relative who bought it on holiday in Sweden. maybe there is a site for this?

The Americans have The National Fishing Lure Collectors Club www.nflcc.org, but you have to join to be able to see all their site. It's obviously biased towards their own bass lures.

There are plenty of old lures sold on ebay.

regards,

Doc

Sorry don't know of a website for abu lures and good old Google came up with nothing. Buy from ebay and the odd tackle fair I guess. National Tackle fair is in Redditch on November 16th or place a wanted advert on the forum.

Good luck

E Bay is you best bet. Abu lures come up fairly frequent. Like any old tackle rarity & condition dictate price. A box is always handy & it is surprising to some how much more if original box is included. Ones you have mentioned are seen fairly often & you can pick them up fairly cheap if you are not to bothered about condition. After all a new swivel & hook are easily added to enhance. Abu ones that command good prices are Toby's, Reflex, Hi Lo's & most definitely Kynochs, but only the Made in Sweden ones. Modern far east made are not of any interest to collectors.

Default Tight Lines

They can be found as Highlander quite rightly points out, and ebay is a good starting place. I too recall the Swedish Tackle, pondering for hours over the 'Tight Lines' catalogues, and never having enough money from the paper round, to buy. I bought an old 333 and a solid glass rod together with a box of spinners from a junk shop in Woodstock nr Blemhiem for £5. sadly they too ended up on the bottom of many rivers and ponds.

A book on the Abu story has recently been published and I have got hold of a copy, but due to re-docoration is out of reach at the moment. It really is fascinating. There are a number of collectors however a lot of items can be obtained relatively cheaply.

Does anyone have a good condition Cardinal 44x they wish to part with?

Default paper rounds, milk rounds

Like many teenagers in the late sixties I lusted after Abu kit ( this was before girls became interesting ) I end up doing a milk round followed by a paper round and for about a month an evening paper round delivering the Liverpool Echo and the Manchester Evening News.

Once I had got my Abu match rod and 505 reel I dropped the evening paper round and by the time I had my head turned by girls I had a 505, 506, 501 and a Mitchel Match and 300.

I also had a neat set of spinners for pike and perch although I never came close to catching a pike.

Can you remember the Abu calender which graded the merits of each day for fishing, in Abu land there were no bad fishing days, just varying degrees of good fishing

I still have a few tight lines cats from about 1977. I will have to rake them out and look at them again.
