Default Chadwicks 477 Advice

The CEFF has been donated a complete card of the above and a smaller amount on another card and I want to ensure they get the best possible price as the proceeds will go to the CEFF National Teams.

Anyone able to give a real good idea of the value as E-bay seems to suggest between £30 -£50 ??

Many thanks

As you say, a card is on ebay for £60 (buy now) see what it closes at.

Thanks Gents for your advice.

I wonder if E-bay is the best way to sell...anyone had any similar experience?

Why not put it in the classfieds section here, let people know that they can make offers up to a given deadline, the highest bidder can have it if the bid is high enough. The problem with ebay is things don't always work out as you expect them to, people forget to bid. Good luck with the sale!

One of the last one of these on Ebay fetched in excess of £100 and the lucky buyer was Phil from Spiders Plus.
These are rare and command a high price even if there is not 100% of the contents on card. Expect it to go over your buy now price if there is bidding or it may just get snatched up at the buy now price.

I noted that the card on eBay is only 70-75% complete, which I guess detracts from its value as a collectors item and is more useful for a fly tyer who intends to use it.

Lucky? I do not see lucky, I see someone who has paid £100 for a card of old wool, that is what I see. Sorry but there you go. I really do not see & never had understood the hype on this particular colour of wool. Still it's their money

Sawyers grandson sells killer bugs on his site, & they are dressed using a substitute material. The real thing is always coming on the market somewhere or other & prices vary considerably as we have seen, there was even someone offering part of a card of 454 recently on ebay, I don't remember how much that went for, it was the closest colour but a fraction lighter.

I have cards of 477 & 454, I also have a very close knitting wool that's closer to 477 than 454 & use that for any fishing flies. Some time ago there was an article in Fly Fishing & Fly tying with micro photos of 477 and some subs. The differences were noticeable, but not significant to human eyes & film/digi photography/printing.

It's a confidence thing, if you want the real thing & think it's going to make a difference then "you pays yer money", look big & fish knowing that it's as the author intended.

There are hardly any wild fish these days, fish as far as we know can't discuss the intricacies & finite differences of colour with each other. So if an item of food appears & they're in the mood to take it, they most likely will.

Get some of the real thing & a good sub, fish the 477 first then the sub & then on another day the sub first then 477. See if there are any differences between the catch rates of fish that have seen both and gone for one instead of the other.
