Default Foster Bros

Hi.

My name is Mats, iīm a 42 year old / young guy from Sweden

I have been offered to buy an old rod made by Foster Bros.
Itīs a "Foster The Champion" 8ft for a line 5/6

He wants around 220Ģ for the rod, is that a fair price ?
The rod is in perfect condition but without original bag.

// Regards Mats

My first thoughts were that is is a bit much for an old split cane rod.
Foster's of Ashbourne were a reputable maker now sadly gone.
but I would have thought that half that Ģ100 might be nearer mark but even at that is would have to be in pristine condition.
Rods on the whole do not command "good" prices unlike reels that can sometimes to through the roof. A picture would have been nice to see condition. You say perfect condition, I would suspect a renovation somewhere along the line, worth asking.
Your money, your choice & depends on what you intend to do with it. You going to fish or just look at it.

The rod is not renovated and still looks almost brand new
Of course iīm going to fish with it if itīs a nice fishing rod, if itīs not
i will put it out for sale again. Itīs not possible to keep all bamboorods
i have bought, i donīt have the time to fish with all of them

I will try to get the price down o bit

Thanks for the information !!

Have anybody tried some rods from Foster ?
Are the rods slow and soft, or a bit faster.

The rods are nice and well made. They were always a "moderate" rod however, not in the top group.

Highlander is spot on in my opinion - the rod should be circa 100-130 pounds.

So why buy them?, modern rods simply by design are more efficient fishing tools than old heavy & sloppy split cane of yesteryear.
Suggest is you really want to spend a few bucks, get yourself a nice one from a good American maker. Other than that most are best left in a museum to look at.

There are "good" makers everywhere if one cares to look.
