It's not fly fishing, but I've recently been left this box and its contents of spinning tackle, probably from the 1950s. The box is approximately 9" x 6" x 2 1/2".
In the lid is a series of removable rods holding the minnow bodies
and in the bottom, underneath a metal lid, felt lined compartments for the hooks and traces.
What confuses me is whether it is home made? Certainly some of the devons are quite crude, and might have been knocked up in a machine shop over lunch break (though the guy who used to own it owned the factory). Here is a 2" (which is copper, with one painted side) and a 2 1/2" unpainted aluminium. There are no markings on these.
The better finished minnows in the lid are made by A. E. Rudge of Redditch, and the box also includes a plastic Hardy "Artificial Spinning Prawn" and a French Spinnex spoon and various weights.
Has anyone seen anything like it?
regards
