what is this.. i cant find much reference to it anywhere

Not so terribly old.

Looks like ABU Garcia was formed in 1980.


I always remember thinking that the quality of their gear went downhill at the same time.

I have an Abu Diplomat bought in the late 70's Made in Japan, a nice enough reel, but a bit dated now,easker1

It is definately contemporary and not vintage. The 56 models seem to be sold around 1998 ! However I do not see the logo/signage in any of my catalogues. Maybe it was intended for the American or other markets ? Cheers, Mike.
