Default Line weight for CC

Does anyone know what line a 7' CC de France is designed for?
I'm using a #3 which seems ok, but I'm no expert.

I would think the original 7' CC de France was designed before the AFTM system of line weights was invented but I've seen it described as a 5 weight.

The tapers of individual bamboo models can change over the years though and there are many other variables that go into a bamboo rod, so I would use whatever you're happy with.

(I'm sure I could research this for myself but ) Assuming the rod came from an era of silk lines, did they not come in different weights? If not, how did you load a heavier rod?

Of course they did (Silk Fly Line Weight Equivalents - Rod Building) but this rod was originally designed a hundred years ago, so more recent examples may not be to the same spec. Perhaps someone with a Hardy catalogue of the 1911 era can help?

From memory I think the rod is 1958 or 1956, if that helps with which catalogue might shed some light.

Unfortunately the Hardy catalogues (from any era) don't specify a line weight for the CC d F.
(I'd suggest a #3 or #4)
