Default Old(ish) Hardy rod and reel

Hello again..

Unconnected to the Marquis I asked about here recently but thought someone on this forum might know something about a rod and reel I was given a few years ago after a great aunt died, as I've always wondered about it.

It's a Hardy rod, hand marked 8' 9" #6, with a code no: N.E. 7646

Then in flowing script, but with what looks like some missing lettering, is written:

'Ne_ Glas' (New Glas?)

and

Be_ Hope (Best Hope??)

I was given this, along with a reel marked as 'Jewel' / Mitre-Hardy / 3 5/8". The reel doesn't look like one of Hardy's finer models to my untrained eye, but I actually know nothing about the age or provenance of either rod or reel. The rod seems to be quite thick at the butt end, so would I be right in thinking that it's fibre-glass? And would a rod like this have any use or advantage over any other in this more modern era? I have considered giving it a try for sea trout, but haven't had a chance yet..

Any insights into either rod or reel would be very welcome!
Thanks

That'll be the Hardy Ben Hope Neo Glass. I think it's a 1960s rod but I have no idea of it's value.

Great info, thanks Endrick!

I'm not really interested in its value to be honest, just would be nice to know anything about it.. It's in lovely condition and it would be great to use it but I've no idea what it was particularly 'designed' for, so to speak...

Thanks again, much appreciated
