Default Curious cane rod

[img][/img] Iam hoping that someone can shed some light on this item for my dad.He bought it at a bootsale a while back.It is a cane rod with interchangeable sections and 2 different butt sections. This gives a combination of a boat/pier rod a spinning rod and also a fly rod.The only info on the rod butts is the word fisherman in green. It came in a wooden box which has compartments in the lid for flies/spinners.Dont have a clue about how old(or not) it may be or who made it any info will be great.

It sounds like one of the Japanese rods we used to buy when I was in the merchant navy, I used the fly rod parts for a while, but the ferrules tend to crack, the cane is quite reasonable but I moved on to F/glass, this was in the late 50's so the rod you have will be dated, easker1

Yes there is quite a few around they still turn up on ebay from time to time.
I think a lot of them were produced around the 60s in nice condition can make a few quid sometimes.

My brother brought the same kind of kit back from the far east when he was in the merchant navy in the 60's.(Ben Line). It's usable but not to durable.Just remembered that it was Pigeon written on it.Brings back memories now.

Yes, Woolworths used to sell them back in the 60s, i think they were £19:6s at the time, well out of my price range! I particularly remember that one of the included 'flies' was a vivid purple, hackle wing streamer.
