Default Orvis graphite sea trout rod

Hello, i wondered if anyone can help me, i have in my possession a Orvis graphite rod it is an 11" 3 piece 9 wt Sea trout rod, weight of rod is 4 7/8 oz. The rod is still in its metal tube and immaculate bag, the rod itself i would describe as near perfect condition with very little sign of use ie a slight dulling in colouration of the cork handle. I have no idea of how this rod came to be in the family as my Grandad did not fish as far as anyone can remember. I have contacted Orvis HQ in the states and they confirmed "after much deliberation and almost 1 week of sending pictures backwards and forewards) the rod was likely made in the 70's but asked if my Grandad had ever visited the states to which the answer is "no" so that bit is a little puzzling Orvis would not commit to a present day value on the rod. I have also failed in trying to value it by using that fleabay site. I cant seem to find any mention of such a rod anywhere. I will try and upload some pictures later. If anybody can help me with a valuation for this rod please it would be very much appreciated as i do aim to sell it in order to get my 12 year old daughter kitted out with appropriate equiptment for her age/size. Thanks for reading this and i apologise if it does not quite fall into the vintage/collectable category.

Ed

Bit of a tricky one that, hard to value. It's not a particularly popular line weight or length to be honest-only my opinion though. I have a Hardy 10'6" graphite 7/8 early 80s and would think the value to be similar. If I were to sell mine I would like to think it's worth a 100 quid all day long but would probably end up letting it go for 75 ish. Yours being in such good nick may get 50.00 more. Something yours definately has going for it is the Pike fishers may be interested-it's beefy enough and a good length for playing big pike.

I put a mint, as in brand new, Orvis TLS 9' 9wt up on here a year or two ago for a mate. It had never had a line on it-150.00. Never got one enquiry . On reflection the line weight held it back, that's what I think anyway.

Someone else may see it completely differently but that's what I would expect it to make.

Chris.

Thank you for the reply Chris, i had not given one thought to the pike lads n lass's having a use for such a rod but now that you have mentioned it i may just hold onto it myself as i quite fancy a pike on the fly Thanks for the rough guesstimate also on the rod as i wasnt sure at all about its value but i now have a ball park figure to work with. I have promised my daughter to get her kitted out so i may just have to balance the books somewhere along the line. Cheers.

Ed
