Default Whiteadder reservoir

Opening day today at the Whiteadder reservoir - myself and another forumite had a few casts this afternoon. Despite unencouraging conditions - bright sun out of a clear blue sky and a cool NE wind - there were quite a few fish moving on the surface. A few trout were caught and more were lost. The fish seemed in pretty good condition, although still a little bit slim. Only one other angler about - this must be one of the most underfished places in southern Scotland. Also one of the most attractive.

How much is it for a ticket up there now Traprain? I haven't been up since East of Scot water got shot of it.

It's 8 quid for a bank ticket - the ticket machine is now by the boathouse. There are still boats available, but I forget how much they are. The reservoir has not been stocked now for a good few years and so the population is pretty much wild.

Used to enjoy going up on a summers evening for a couple of hours until the caenis arrived.
Must admit I normally don't stop there now and just carry on to the Watch. Usually end up getting as many wild browns there as in the whiteadder.

Yes those caenis evenings are hard work. But I have seen some huge caenis hatches up at the Watch as well. I suppose the difference is at the Whiteadder, fewer anglers, half the price, but no rainbows. The last may or may not be a plus point.
