Still the same " a team of dry Hoppers " Chris Guthrie has an article on Sweethope in one of the current fly mags, well worth a read.

I fished Sweethope on Tuesday, most fish were taken towards the top of the lake on daddies and small f fly's (18's). I tried other methods, wets, nymphs etc but couldnt connect. My boat partner had a few fish on muddlers. Oh, we saw an otter on the water too which topped off a nice day

Default Utterly dissapointed

Although sport was good for some of us today the quality of fish was very poor! Not very good value for money. Don't think the club will venture that far again. Very disappointed after hearing such good reports.

Sorry to hear that, what do you mean by poor quality? Size, condition?

Pete, average just under 2lbs which would be ok if they gave a bit of a fight, the seven I had came in without a fight at all, two of the three I killed were disfigured, one had only one eye the other had a stump for a tail!! Not the quality I would have expected. Never mind.

I have been fishing Derwent recently which seems to have been fishing very poorly. I popped up to Sweethope today and it seemed to be very quiet.

Going tomorrow morning hopefully for a day in the boat with my mate who has never held a fly rod before. Hope the wind drops off a bit for us or may have to fish off the bank on the small lough.

I haven't fished Sweethope since I was 15 or 16 but will never forget landing a 9lb 8oz rainbow there on my 4th cast in the boat when I was 12.

Out of interest, when is the best time of year to fish at Sweethope?

Sweethope didn't prove the most productive but had a good day. More info in my Blog Entry
