Question North Third

Any reports on how North Third is fishing just now, flies, areas, quality of fish etc.?

Not fished yet this year but hoping to go up soon and fish from boat. It's always been a top water and hoping this is still the case.

I live 5 minutes away from North Third. Always find it tough going although the setting is second to none. I was last there 2 weeks ago and I never saw any one of around 7 or 8 boats get into a fish. Fortunately I took one Rainbow on a medium sink line with a size 12 cinnamon and gold. I have never heard anyone say North Third is a fishery that 'fishes well' although this is petty as I, like many, am not a fisherman who 'needs' to catch fish, If you know what I mean.

Good Luck.

therealijn.

I was there for an evening session at the end of July.
Had 6 or 7 small brownies using a floating line and a rainbow of about 3lb drifting towards the dam when I added a sink tip.
The other boat out had one rainbow and the only bank angler had 3 in the corner by the dam. I think he was using small black nymphs on an intermediate.
Not easy but really enjoyed the fishing.

Tight lines
Billy

Was on it 2 weeks ago for an evening session.
No boats had been out all day and 2 guys on the bank. They had one or two fish.Twelve anglers from my club fished it for the grand total of two fish and a couple lost!
Make your own mind up about that!

Any more clues?
Could be lots of reasons.

Could be, and I hate to moan about a fishery, but when you have fished as much as I have you can tell if there are fish in the place or not!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No secret mate
It is about observation.
No fish rising when there should be.
Hardly anyone fishing the water.
Trying various methods and flies and getting no offers.
No rods bending or landing nets to be seen
Good anglers around you getting no offers either.
Watching boats moving all over the place, never covering the same drift twice.
Fly lines changing colour as anglers change their methods,
etc etc etc.

I have fished it 3 times this season. On each occasion I caught 2 rainbows of around the 2lb mark which I released. Also caught a lot of Perch and small wild browns. A few years ago, I would have averaged 6 rainbows per session and usually would have had a 4+lb fish among them.
In my opinion there are fish there, but most probably not the freshly stocked that will take anything type of fish.
Its definitely a challenge now to get a decent bag, but on a nice weather day still a good day out.
