Recently i put a post under general fishing as "where to fish in coventry" and got a few places replied about.the closest being heathcote,so one day last week of i popped ,only to find that the lower lake,the cheapest to fish was like pea soup with algea,the upper lake,the more expensive was clear ,
the person in charge,who i thinbk was the owner allowed me a 1 fish ticket or 4 hour ticket to fish the top lake at i believe was at members rate.
Now bare in mind that this is predominently a rainbow trout fishery and any browns caught must be returned,i could keep one rainbow but once caught i must stop fishing as there is no catch or release,unless its a brown trout.
So off i trot for my 4 hours fishing and considering i was staying in a ibis hotel in coventry i really didnt want to keep any fish,after about an hour i get into what seems to be a hefty fish,after a few minutes i get it to the net to find its a brownie of easily between 4lb to 6lb,which i managed a photo of whilst playing it using my phone,once released i fished on another hour and i gets another hefty,yarking take,and yes its another brown trout only this one is bigger and yes i got a photo of it in the water as it swam away,and then dropping my phone into the lake and took another 20mins to fish it out.
I was the only person to fish the lake in the 4 hours i was there and got no rainbows and two browns ,and thoroughly enjoyed my day out

so a big thankyou goes to the fishery,if only i could have returned to get a rainbow,but then what could i have done with it.

Glad there was something around for you.

I've only fished Heathcote a very few times and can't say I much care for it.

My younger Son used to run a Restaurant and he asked me to get him some big fish for a Buffet. Didn't have time to get to Lechlade and that can be a chancy business, so popped down to the "Big Fish" lake at Heathcote.

As soon as I arrived, I spotted a nice Rainbow in the margin, dropped a Nymph on him and Wallop Your Worship, he was in the bag.

Threw a spec Fly over by the outlet and that was another one...two in a quarter of an hour or so.

I had a three fish ticket so I stopped fishing and went for a stroll round the Lake. No fish showing to stalk so I went back to the car for early lunch and a bit of a kip as the weather was a bit cr*p.

Emerged at about 3:00pm. and thought "I'd better get this over with".........

...................I scraped another one just as it was Chucking Out Time !!!!!

Never take fishing for granted
