Default Carron Valley Update

Fishing has been superb oflate with most action on drys. Best flies have been hoppers, loch ordie, green peter.

Just posted the results of the 2010 Masters which will also give an indication of fishing.

Got the message at 1 today mate cheers. As I was rattling like a battery hen I was quite pleased. The novice was gutted.

Default Brilliant Fishing

Had a day out on the Carron on 1st September and decided to fish from the bank. I usually take a boat, but given the low water level and it being a flat calm, I figured my chances would be better on terra firma.
And how right I was with 5 good rainbows before lunch. One in particular, a fish of just over 2lb fought like a devil making 3 good line stripping runs before meeting the priest. It had a lure in its mouth with a foot of line attached. I can see how it broke a previous angler. The lure by the way was a gaudy green fritz cats whisker variant with a red head.
In the afternoon I went on to take 7 Browns.
All my fish came to a CDC loopwing emerger in black, fished static on a long leader in bright sunshine and in a flat calm. Probably missed another dozen takes too and dropped another fish.
As an aside, an Osprey made a dive for a fish which must have been on the large side as it managed to pull the bird right under the water twice before the Osprey gave up.
All in all an excellent day out on what must be one of the best waters in Scotland.
