Default Sheephouse, Maidenhead

Heading down to Beaconsfield for a few days to catch up with a friend. Just wondering what people have to say about Sheephouse fishery, and more importantly - What flies are catching?!
I've tried to access their website today but seems to be offline. I've never been there so any info would be useful.
Also are there any other trout fisheries within an hours drive of the Beaconsfield area?

Chris

Not fished it for years. Try Felix Farm instead, it pretty close to Maidenhead. Fished well yesterday. If you don't catch your limit you can go back to catch the remaining fish for £10. Good value i'd say.

Thanks Monaghan! Looks like we'll give it a try.

If it's not too late for you I would strongly agree with Monaghan. I live a couple of miles from Beaconsfield and would always choose Felix over Sheephouse, for the fishing quality, but also for the difference in friendliness.

cheers guys, will avoid sheephouse then! My friend poked his head in there a week or so ago and got the same warm welcome you've described!! Felix it is.
Is Felix farm far quite large, and is it primarily fished from bank or boat? (need to know what to take with me!!)

All the best,

Chris

Yeah, old Rob is not the most sociable person you could meet. Sheephouse is very poor value as a day ticket water. I have a season ticket and it took weeks before I caught my first trout, mind you I am not the best angler by a long shot, but I have seen many better anglers than me catch nothing.

He put a few trout in the beginning of this summer and the fishing took off for a few weeks, most if not all of the fish were deformed in some way, its now back to normal.

Only those who know where and what to fish stand any real chance of catching a trout, and even then its not a certainty.

I used to work in Maidenhead so tried a few of these places.

Sheephouse is very poorly run although I never found him quite as unpleasant as a lot of people have said but I would not recommend it as the stocking is certainly inconsistent.

I have never fished Felix but have had a walk around it and it seems well run and nice enough but there are a lot of rules - one fly, etc

Personally, if you can get there, I would strongly recommend Farmoor - well stocked, quality fish, helpful wardens and a "proper" water. All it is missing is C&R which is however allowed from a boat, which you can get for 30 quid all in including C&R ticket.

One of my friends had 15 fish there last week , which makes it terrific value.

Farmoor is near Oxford isn't it?
Will have to give it a go when I'm down that way again. I have however managed to get to Felix Farm a few times and enjoyed the experience. First time out in a boat was there: Felix Farm
