Walkerwood Fishery, Cheshire
Nearly didn't bother going up to Walkerwood yesterday afternoon -sun was blazing down, hardly a waft of a breeze and temperatures hitting 27 degrees.
Went up anyway and spent some time chasing what breeze there was from one end of the reservoir to the other.
Incredible rudd activity on the surface in the shallows at the top end, but flat calm.
Went onto the overflow next to a guy who got a nice overwintered blue on a daddy, but I only got swirls to a hopper.
The breeze picked up and I had a cracking take. The fish tore off, leapt clear of the water several heart stopping times and I could see it was a good un.
Eventually netted it and it weighed in at 8lbs - a well mended fit overwintered rainbow.
Just shows, even when conditions look hopeless there is sometimes a window of opportunity when conditions are more favourable.
I know many people will be thinking I should have been dragging the bottom with a nymph in those conditions, but fish were showing on top and I like fishing on top.
