Default Avington

Went yesterday for the afternoon on a two fish ticket - you would not have been impressed! They have got a problem there that resulted in lakes 2 and 3 looking something like fluorescent green pea soup, lake 1 was better but there were virtually all the fishernen that had turned up lined up along the banks. The only trout I saw were in lake 1, both lakes 2 and 3 were too cloudy to spot anything apart from a couple of Perch in the margins, things were so bad the water from the lakes was clouding the river at the outlet from the lakes.

I spoke to one of the staff there and they had the Environmental Agency people there that day taking samples and have found out the problem but cannot do anything about it, they have to wait for the weather to sort things out.

I caught two fish - a couple of 5lb stockies but most of the anglers were either fishless or had not made their bags.

That's interesting as that was excatly what I found when I visited last August. The first lake was clear but the middle and furtherest away were pea soupish making stalking impossible. I put it down to the very hot weather. If it's warm and dry this summer they could have real problems. Hope they get it sorted as it's a venue I really enjoy!

Best to contact the fishery before you go there I reckon, you never know things may be sorted out soon, I hope so as its a cracking place to fish.

The trouble with Dever is that it has no character and is not as nice a place to be as somewhere like Avington.

Default I agree

Last time Nutty and I looked around Dever there were half a dozen kids on bikes just riding around the lakes - not seen that before and I fished it quite a bit in 2004/5.

Avington - sort it out - you have a loyal group of fishermen who want to fish the Avington we all know and love - having your fly line covered in a gunge is not what we pay our money for!
