Default Evening session

I was up last night for the first of the evening sessions. Lovely evening weather wise until about 9pm when it turned baltic and ruined any chance of a decent rise.

Managed 9 fish mainly on kates and mini shuggies but I did get one on a cdc. I had one cracker about 4lb but the rest were fighting fit 2lbers including a couple of blues. My mate managed 3 (1st time he's caught his limit!) including one about 3lb - all on a shuggie.

Looking forward to going back soon for a day shift or on a slightly warmer evening.

Hi There

I fished at the Watch today. My only disappointment was my sandwiches!

Ham and cheese failed to cut it.

In fact I would have needed Champagne and Lobster Tails to match the fishing as it was that good.

The fish were already rising as I pulled over the hill and the fishery came into sight.

I was met by a friendly welcome and it was good to see the place had been tidied up and the lodge given a lick of paint inside out. The crowning glory for me though was the fleet of new boats.

With the fish rising steadily I was itching to get out and after loading the boat up I motored gently out to the middle to tackle up. I decided on a Mid Glass and Dries as a hedged bet.

The plan was to let the dries sit for about 30 seconds or so and then nymph them back.

The first four of five casts did not produce anything but on the next one a large fish launched itself at the point dry and then proceeded to go mental. A few minutes later with the boat turned right round a five pound Rainbow slid into the net.

The next hour was amazing as fish after fish had a go at the dries just after they hit the surface.
I only had one fish nymphing back but the action was so intense I could not get the intermediate off and a floater on!

Anyway the action did slow down a tad but I still ended up with a cricket score and one of my best ever Stillwater days fishing. And I have had a few…….

Some of the fish were from the funny farm as they just went mental went you lifted into them and at least 30% were ex RAF as they just went airborne with some of the highest jumping fish I have ever seen.

There was a good mixture of Blues and Rainbows and one Brown The sizes were also varied with three or four, five pounders and a few fish around a pound and a half with majority between two and three pounds.

A good variety so you did not know what was coming next.

The bank anglers were also catching steadily but it was the boats that were on fire.

All in all a fantastic day afloat.

The “New” Watch Fishery.........…I commend it to the house!

Best Regards

robbie

Default perch at the watch water

Please would anglers please just return any perch they might catch when fishing for trout. And yes we are aware that they are there in numbers.

Thumbs up Water is lower but the fishing is on a high

The water has dropped a good bit since its opening day but the fishing has been on a high. Fish have been taken all over using no set pattern. Daddies, sedges, black beatle, bibio, kate maclaren, ace of spades, cats whisker etc etc have all be very productive. Fish have been avaraging around te 2lbs mark but several bigger fish have also been taken. There are now 2 sessions, day 9am to 4.45pm and evening sessions are 5.30 to 10.30pm.

Had a cracking evening up at the Watch last night - this place just gets better and better at the moment.

With it being a gentle south easterly, we decided to fish the 1st bay that you drive past. We were into fish right from the off with a few to black hoppers and kates fished wet. Then moved on to fishing the hopper dry until they became preoccupied with picking off some really small flies - may have been caenis. Struggled a bit for a while and then tried stripping a blob through them to see if there was any response. Absolutely brilliant, bow waves followed on every cast with arm wrenching takes as the blob was about to leave the water - great fun.

Ended up with about 20 - most about 2lb and a couple about 3lb - all hard fighting and more often that not jumping 4 or 5 times before being brough under control.

Weather was great all night and just enough of a breeze to keep most of the midges away.

Well worth a visit if you're in the vicinity

Has anyone fished The Watch recently? Is is still fishing as well? I've been on holiday so haven't managed up for a couple of weeks. Our club are up for the day shift on Saturday so any pointers would be appreciated.

Default The water has dropped a lot recently

wiremill, just to advise as you have been on holiday, the water has dropped a lot recently as the water board are taking around 7 million ltrs on a regular basis. The fishing has been so so from the bank but id say that the boats have had the best results lately. check The "NEW" Watch Fishery for upto date info. hope this helps regards bill

Thanks for the update Bill - I noticed you'd just updated your website. It must almost be down to the bare bones now as it was already very low when I was up 3 weeks ago. Our club (Wiremill) are fishing from the bank on Saturday so fingers crossed the fish aren't hiding too far out. I've not fished it during the day since you took over, only evening sessions, so looking forward to a new challenge. Fishing has been superb on dries - mainly sedges - each evening I've been up, so hopefully they'll be just as keen to take during the day.
