I'll reply to my own thread as I went for a days fishing there on Wednesday.
We arrived at around 10:00 am and were told the fish were very deep due to the sun I guess. I asked the guy (I think it was Andy) what he recomended and he suggested a Lure called a Dawsons Olive. I had my new Sixth Sense Di3 intermediate to try out so bought a couple of lures and off we went to the top pool where most of the people where. Within the first hour I had lost two fish and had a couple of bites as well which was promising. At mid day the place went a bit quiet and I tried switching flies with no success although my dad did catch a few using an orange blob type fly, then an okeydokey and then a rubber daddy.
Feeling a bit pertured I changed back to the lure and then started to get more takes and finally caught my first fish, a rainbow of around 2lb. As the time ticked away people started to leave and by 4 there weren't many people left. At this point a few clouds started to drift over head and as one blocked the sun the fish suddenly came to feed from the surface. I changed position and then switched rod to my dads dry line to try my luck with a cdc. Instantly I got a bite but lost the fish and then another after that but struck too early. When the cloud past the fish vanashed again so I switched back to the lure.
On my first cast I hooked a decent sized fish which took a fair bit of work to bring in. On landing it, it looked to probably weight some where around the 6Lb mark. I was well pleased with that. A couple of chaps also there were having a field day fishing with some kind of red buzzer if I remember correctly. They must have caught 6 or 7 each in the last hour I was there!
At five it was time to go, we wandered back to the lodge and reported our catch. I was impressed with the quality of the fish and the place in general was well kept with decent facilities. I'd be very happy to go back there although I generally prefer the larger lakes.
