Hi guys, this is my first post.

Just want to try and encourage people who haven't already, to give Arnfield fishery a go. The fishery is, in my opinion the best stillwater in the north of England. The quality of fish is superb and they can be caught on imitative tactics be it buzzer or dry fly. Indeed in my 5 visits so far this year I have caught 97 fish including 2 doubles in the same session. Of these 97, 85 were taken on Naiad nymph which is a suberb buzzer pattern which has regularly outfished more traditional buzzer patterns. With the warmer weather having arrived and settled conditions forecast for at least the next week, the fishing will only get better. I hope to see some of you on the bank.

The Naiad buzzer is so simple its unreal. All they are tied with are adhesive backed strips which are simply wound around the hook. Naiad itself is a french based company run by an english gentleman and I actually distribute the materials / flies in this country for him.

There are several different colours of strips available and you simply wind your chosen head colour on first, then start from the bend with your body colour and wind this up to the head. No thread required, all you need is your hackle pliers to enable you to wind the strips on easier.

I've been to Arnfield on four occasions and it really is a fantastic venue, I'm going to be popping over the A57 a bit more this year.

It's worth it just for the drive!

I agree, it takes me about 45 minutes from Walkley oddgit. It's a lovely drive over the Snake Pass on a nice day and a guaranteed good days fishing awaits at the other end.

Had a quick morning session at Arnfield today 9 'till 12:20..

Arrive to glass like surface broken all over by rising fish, sipping, head and tailing, splashing all types, looked like a certainty to have a bumper day......

Hour and a half late, half the fly collection having had an outing, got to washing lining size 12 black flexifloss buzzer with sunbust biot cheeks, two boils midway from booby to end of fly line later the line started to sail off lifted into an argument that lasts for 10 minutes with a 9-10 lb rainbow, cracki it....

Hour and a half later.... give up on these surface fish again and get to golden brown flexifloss buzzer 7ft down under an indicator, first cast on the drop, indicator sails away another 5 more fish (all around 2lb, blues and rainbows) in the next hour same tactic, some on the drop, some after buzzers start to pull indicator down so at full depth and some after a quick pull to lift them back up and home for dinner .


Lovely day, just wish i could get those rising fish, always seems nicer to aim at them and nail them than waiting for them to come along...

Anyway, if your thinking of giving it a try well worth it, boats seemed to be doing well, white fritz gto a score of 42 for someone the other day if thats your bag..

The top corner near the over flow was fishing well from the bank earlier in the week, I was there Tuesday and Wednesday and had 24 and 33 including a brown of 5lb and rainbows of 8lb and 13lb. The fish were feeding had on buzzers just sub surface, Tuesday they were taking hoppers in the surface film and hares ear a foot below and wednesday it was black and orange naiad buzzers 1.5 and 3 feet below an indicator. Its the troutmasters fishoff on Sunday, best of luck to everyone taking part.
