Default Avington, Avon Springs or Lechlade

Can't decide where to fish on Thursday.

Avington - Would like to fish there but reports have not been that good of late and not sure if the average fish size warrants the high price. But if you hook a biggun

Avon Springs - Another place I'd like to fish

or

Lechlade - Couple of hours drive but normally worth it, not sure of current form though.

Decisions, decisions, decisions

I went to Avon Springs on Sunday, for the first time, and had a good day.

Having read updates on here, I kind of knew what to expect and Barrie didn't let me down and was on good form.

The fishing was difficult due to the wind, then rain, then hail storm but overall it was a nice day. A lot of people found it difficult and a few blanked but I managed to get a couple in the Willow lake at 6lb and one from the House lake at 8lb late on in the afternoon. Fisk were taken on Orange fritz, Green Montana and Blue Flash Damsel.

The House lake is exceptionally clear, but Willow was quite murky and stalking was out of the question.

Thursday looks a great day to go with lighter windws, so sure anywhere will be a great day!

T.

As between Avon Springs and Avington....depends what you want to do.

Avington is rather more of a stalking water than Avon Springs, but it's maybe a little early in the year for that. Late Spring to early Autumn is really the stalkers' prime time. As Browniebasher often says, £70 plus is a lot to pay for a day's speculative fishing the water when its really down to luck whether you contact a biggie, however pleasant the day might otherwise be.

The quality of fish I have been catching on Avon Springs this year has been very good, and they are fighting fit in the cold water. They have continued feeding - daphnia, phantom larvae and baby damsel nymphs have all shown up in spoonings. Won't be long before some large black buzzers show up as well.

Perhaps an April day on Avon Springs, and put the £30 saved towards a day at Avington in the summer ?

Can anyone tell me what the ticket prices are for Avon Springs? There's nothing on their website. Found an old reveiw on another site, but I expect the prices have increased somewhat since then. I get the impression from some of the above posts that it's rather less than Avington.

3R, currently it's £45 / day for 4 fish on the lakes; £35 / day for 3 fish ditto; £65 / day for a "split" river and lakes day (comes recommended by me, certainly during the Mayfly and September / early October).

If you find you like the place, 10 x 4 fish day tickets is available at a 10% discount.

£45 for the day, 4 fish limit, think they also do £35 for 3 fish.
