Default fairlie moor

It's reopened as Glenburn Trout Fishery. A couple of guys from Fairlie village have the lease and seem to know what they're about. Opened yesterday.

I believe Les went back to America at the New Year.

That's sad news, I had a season ticket for Fairlie Moor and got on well with Les.

probably better to go and fish it yourself mate, as anyone whos been and maybe had a good day or bad could put you off going. Try it for your self and it will be more rewarding if you get it right.......

Default Les Zimmermann

I can confirm that Les returned to the USA for a life saving operation. He was very ill and due to the seriousness of the operation had to be put into an induced coma. Unfortunately the surgery team were unable to revive him. I believe that Les has been intered in Arlington military cemetery.

Thumbs up Fairlie Moor / Glenburn Trout Fishery

I visited yesterday with 2 mates and we all had a great days fishing.

The amount of work that the new owners have put in is massive and the platforms are some of the best I've seen. Simple touches such as steps down steep banks to the new platforms really show the effort and thought that's went in to the refurb.

Conditions were perfect when we arrived and we could see fish boiling all over the place. We were all into fish after about ten minutes though keeping them on was proving a challenge. The morning was great fun with plenty of bumps and fish landed for all. Things took a turn for the worse when it clouded over and a cold wind came through the valley, this really put the fish down and could only manage another 2 from 1-3pm. A decent day all round with all of us finishing on 7 or 8 each.

Tam (I think) was telling me that they've put in 750 fish with a view to adding another 150 to replace the 120 or so that have been taken since opening 2 weeks ago. The place is fishing great just now and hopefully this will continue under the new management.

They've now scrapped the separate bait pond and have moved bait fishing to the top end. Fly fishing is permitted anywhere.
Not sure how this will pan out but with fish being caught all over the place yesterday hopefully it will keep everyone happy.

I agree with Alex comment above, one boy yesterday who had been beside us most of the morning hadn't caught a thing when I last spoke to him at 2pm. So well worth visiting yourself
